Fed: Long-term jobless rate hits six-month high - ABS

CANBERRA, Feb 21 AAP - Long-term unemployment blew out to a six-month high in January,new figures showed today.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) said on a seasonally adjusted basis, therewere 151,600 Australians out of work for a year or more in January, an increase of justover 6,000 from the previous month.

Most of the increase was absorbed by male workers.

It was the highest figure since June last year, when just over 162,000 people wereon the long-term unemployed list.
