NSW: Two children jump from burning house to safety
EDS: Gender of children unknown at this stage.
SYDNEY, April 3 AAP - Two children trapped in a house fire in Sydney jumped from the
second storey of the building to flee the blaze and, remarkably, walked away without significant
injuries.
Two adults and four children were taken to hospital after escaping from the house fire
in west suburban Greenacre this morning, police say.
Firefighters were called to the house on Banksia Road shortly before 6.30am (AEDT)
where they were told three people were trapped on the second floor of the two-storey property.
In all, two adults and four children were trapped in the building.
NSW Fire Brigades spokesman Craig Brierly said two of the children jumped to safety
from the upper floor of the two-storey building, while the remaining residents were rescued
by firefighters.
"Two children evacuated themselves by jumping from the second storey," Mr Brierly said.
"The others were rescued by firefighters using ladders."
All six were treated by ambulance officers at the scene and were taken to Bankstown
Hospital suffering minor burns and smoke inhalation.
A hospital spokeswoman said they were all in stable condition.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which Mr Brierly said caused "significant damage"
to the top storey of the house.
Investigations into the cause of the fire were underway.
