VIC:Crash pilot was a 'reliable' volunteer

By Belinda Merhab

MELBOURNE, Aug 16 AAP - A volunteer pilot who died in a plane crash along with the
teenage girl he was flying home from a medical appointment had bought a plane especially
to help people in need.

Don Kernot, 69, had 40 years' experience as a pilot when his plane crashed in a paddock
in Wallup, near Horsham, around 6.30pm (AEST) on Monday.

The grandfather had moved to the nearby town of Yarrawonga when he retired last year.

He began volunteering as a pilot with the Angel Flight charity earlier this year and
told the Yarrawonga Chronicle newspaper that he bought his Piper Cherokee 180 especially
for his charity work, because his Cessna 150 was too small and slow.

Angel Flight offers free flights to medical facilities, with volunteer pilots offering
their time as well as their aircraft and the associated flight expenses.

Mr Kernot's work with Angel Flight cost him up to $500 a month.

The father of three began flying back in 1968.

Angel Flight founder and chief executive Bill Brinstow said Mr Kernot was an experienced
pilot who had been involved in 24 missions for the charity and had "proved very reliable".

He said Mr Kernot had more than 850 hours in-command flight experience and had a rating
to fly at night.

"There's something different about a volunteer being killed in this way," Mr Brinstow told AAP.

"Flights tend to take a day, they mostly write-off a day to do a flight so they're
making an important donation."

Mr Brinstow said the flight had caused him to wonder whether he should have established
the charity to begin with.

"I had moments last night of going, `gee, if I hadn't started Angel Flight', this wouldn't
have happened," he said.

"It's a dreadful, dreadful disaster, what a shame.

"How dreadfully sad for the family and friends of the girl and also of the pilot."

Mr Kernot died at the scene of the crash along with his 15-year-old passenger, who
was travelling home to Nhill after receiving regular treatment in Melbourne.

Mr Brinstow said the girl and her 43-year-old mother, the sole survivor of the crash,
were on their 20th mission with Angel Flight and had been flying with the charity every
three months for five years.

The girl's mother suffered head, chest and rib injuries and remained in a critical
condition at the Royal Melbourne Hospital on Tuesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Mr Brinstow said this was the first accident the charity had experienced since it was
founded in 2003.

He said he found out about the tragedy about 9pm, when the girl's father called to
say the flight had not arrived.

Neville Blyth, duty manager at the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, said a team
of four aviation safety investigators would spend three to four days examining the crash
scene.

They will conduct a preliminary site survey, examining the site and any evidence of
impact marks, talking to witnesses and studying weather conditions at the time of the
crash.

Emergency services were called to the scene after a local farmer reported seeing a
low-flying plane, before hearing a crash.

"I heard the plane fly over probably about 6.15pm, flying low, heard the throttle,
heard him throttle back a little bit... sounded fine, kept going, that's the last I heard
and saw," a local man told ABC Radio.

The plane was found in a paddock off McLennans Road about 8pm.

FED:US facing substantial challenges: Swan

CANBERRA, April 19 AAP - The debt challenges facing the United States could not be
more different to the situation in Australia, Treasurer Wayne Swan says.

Global credit rating agency Standard & Poor's downgraded the US outlook on Monday from
stable to negative, saying its AAA rating was at risk unless policy makers agree on a
plan to reduce it budget deficit and US national debt by 2013.

Mr Swan said the US is facing some substantial fiscal challenges, but it has got a
big, dynamic and diversified economy which is starting to recover.

"The debt situation in the US and in a number of other advanced countries could not
be more different to the situation in Australia," Mr Swan said in a brief statement.

He said Australia's net debt will peak at less than a 10th of the peak in the US and
the government's strict fiscal rules will have the budget back in surplus in 2012/13.

"The situation in the US shows how important it is that difficult decisions such as
necessary spending cuts are not delayed until such time that they need to be harsher and
deeper," he said.

Mr Swan will deliver his fourth budget on May 10.

Knowledge Networks Releases iPad Study
Type: News

The iPad is still a ways off from becoming a fourth screen and creating new revenue streams for content providers, according to Knowledge Networks' How People Use Media: iPads - A First Look report.

According to a release, a survey of 205 iPad owners and users, the report found early adopters are not demonstrating unique behaviors: six of the seven top reported activities are familiar ones, like web surfing and email.
How People Use Media: iPads provides marketers and researchers with insight on how to best appeal to versed iPad users, who typically use the devices often. In fact, 76 percent of owners use the iPad at least five days a week, while 55 percent of owners use the device everyday.

But these users are bringing the free Internet mindset to the iPad, and only a small portion of users is willing to pay for content. This is a trend worth watching, as the iPad's advertising- supported media model is different from that of any other medium, since iPad users must register with iTunes, providing much personally identifiable information through a pay wall. At the same time, Apple's iAd advertising product can be purchased only through Apple, creating an entirely different advertising ecosystem that industry analysts are watching closely.

"Early-adopters are currently treating the iPad as an Internet appliance," said David Tice, Vice President, Group Account Director at Knowledge Networks and leader of The Home Technology Monitor research program. "Media companies and other content creators cannot assume that iPod behaviors - purchasing content for the device - will be immediately transferred to the iPad. In our early-adopter group, we saw, by nearly a 6-to-1 ratio, that iPad users prefer an ad-supported model over a pay model to gain access to content. At this point, a pay-for-content model would appeal only to a niche group of consumers."

Ironically, users who watch TV episodes or movies on their iPads most often learn about them from branded apps created by services like YouTube, Netflix and SlingBox. Word-of-mouth, typically the most common information source, came in second in the survey, just ahead of TV network apps, with iTunes mentioned less.

The study also shows that 70 percent of iPad owners/users have read an e-book on the device; 61 percent an electronic magazine or journal; and 51 have watched network TV programs. Yet only 13 percent of iPad owner/users would be willing to pay extra for an iPad-friendly version of a magazine or TV show they already pay for in its standard format (such as a cable or magazine subscription).

The Home Technology Monitor provides information on the media technologies consumers have access to - from smartphones to Internet- enabled TVs; its reports draw on trend data from 1981 to the present, as well as KN's How People Use approach to studying consumers' interactions with media.

Knowledge Networks is a provider of research in marketing, media, health and social policy.

FED:Howes looks to WA for narrow Labor win

CANBERRA, Aug 21 AAP - Australian Workers Union secretary Paul Howes predicts Labor
will win 75 seats at the election, falling one short of being able to govern in its own
right.

"All eyes will be on Western Australia, in terms of the result we get out of that state,
whether we retain Hasluck or we pick up Swan," he told ABC Television, with 55 per cent
of the national vote counted.

"They will be very difficult for us, for Labor, to pick up."

Mr Howes said he didn't think there was any likelihood of a majority coalition government.

The coalition needs 17 Labor seats to win the election by garnering a uniform swing
of 2.3 per cent across the country. But the government can lose its absolute majority
if it loses 13 seats.

ABC election analyst Antony Green has already predicted a loss of 13 seats for Labor.

FED: Another boat arrives in Australia with 32 Sri Lankans aboard

FED: Another boat arrives in Australia with 32 Sri Lankans aboard

By Julian Drape and Andrew Drummond

CANBERRA, April 22 AAP - Another boatload of asylum seekers has been intercepted off
the West Australian coast, less than a week after a fishing boat exploded, killing five
Afghans.

The latest boat was carrying 32 Sri Lankan men, Home Affairs Minister Bob Debus said.

It was intercepted 47 nautical miles southwest of Barrow Island after entering Australian waters.

"The vessel had just entered our migration zone ... that extends 33 nautical miles
off our shore," Mr Debus told reporters in Perth.

"The people on board will be transported to Christmas Island.

"I am told that the boat is secure and the operation is proceeding very successfully."

The boat was intercepted by HMAS Wollongong after being spotted by a border protection
plane "in the last 24 hours", Mr Debus said on Wednesday afternoon.

It is the seventh boat to arrive in Australian waters this year.

It's the fifth to be intercepted in the past two weeks, and the 14th since Labor made
changes to Australia's immigration policy last September.

The coalition has argued that "soft" policy shift is to blame for the recent influx
of boat people, which has seen 485 asylum seekers arrive in the last eight months.

Now, it's also pointing the finger at cost-cutting.

Opposition immigration spokeswoman Sharman Stone says funding for the immigration department,
border protection and customs has been cut.

"Resources have been slashed," she said.

"One of the things we have insisted the Rudd Labor government do is review that cost slashing."

Dr Stone questioned why aerial surveillance missed the latest arrival.

"We had been given a heads-up there was a boat coming in, probably about 36 hours ago," she said.

"We've got a series of bungles and series of problems here."

As the boat was being intercepted, debris and personal belongings retrieved from the
vessel which exploded off Ashmore Reef last Thursday arrived in Darwin for forensic testing.

Northern Territory police have finished interviewing 55 witnesses to the fatal explosion.

Fifty-one defence personnel have been interviewed, as well as four people who were
aboard the boat.

Some 29 of the Afghans can't immediately seek refugee status because they were first
taken to an oil rig - the Front Puffin - which is excised from the mainland.

However, 13 others who were taken directly to Darwin for medical treatment can apply
straight away, and will be able to appeal any decision regarding their status.

The Greens says there's a two-class system, and are calling for all asylum seekers
to be processed on the mainland.

"In this particular case, members of the same family could potentially be presented
with different legal entitlements," Greens immigration spokeswoman Sarah Hanson-Young
said.

"The inconsistency ... throws a spotlight on the arbitrary and unfair nature of these laws."

Dr Stone said the two groups were treated differently because of the Rudd government's
offshore processing policy.

She said none of them should receive special visa consideration because of the ordeal
they went through.

But it remains unclear whether the coalition wants temporary protection visas back on the agenda.

"In terms of temporary protection visas, they are part of our consideration for a strategy
for the future," Dr Stone said.

Vic: Visa deadline approaches for Homeless World Cup players

By Michelle Draper

MELBOURNE, Dec 17 AAP - Up to 60 international players from the Homeless World Cup
remain in Australia as the deadline for their departure approaches.

Between 40 and 50 participants are expected to apply for asylum.

So far, the Department of Immigration has received 24 applications for further visas
from players.

More than 380 of the 440 international players and officials who travelled to Melbourne
for the soccer tournament have now returned to their home countries, a department spokesman
said on Wednesday.

Melbourne homeless service HomeGround has received 46 requests for crisis accommodation
from players from a range of countries in Africa and the Middle East.

HomeGround chief executive Stephen Nash said the group has been housed together in
student accommodation in Melbourne's west.

"Keeping people together allows them to provide support to each other as they go through
a difficult period in their lives and await the outcomes of their applications for asylum,"

he said.

"The asylum seeker group has also received a lot of support from members of the community.

"We are all now working on the next step to ensure people have a longer-term plan for
accommodation and support services."

Players seeking asylum include members of teams from Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Rwanda and Liberia.

The Homeless World Cup players were issued 21-day visas.

Most players arrived on November 29 with visas which would expire from this Friday and Saturday.

NSW: Two children jump from burning house to safety

EDS: Gender of children unknown at this stage.

SYDNEY, April 3 AAP - Two children trapped in a house fire in Sydney jumped from the
second storey of the building to flee the blaze and, remarkably, walked away without significant
injuries.

Two adults and four children were taken to hospital after escaping from the house fire
in west suburban Greenacre this morning, police say.

Firefighters were called to the house on Banksia Road shortly before 6.30am (AEDT)
where they were told three people were trapped on the second floor of the two-storey property.

In all, two adults and four children were trapped in the building.

NSW Fire Brigades spokesman Craig Brierly said two of the children jumped to safety
from the upper floor of the two-storey building, while the remaining residents were rescued
by firefighters.

"Two children evacuated themselves by jumping from the second storey," Mr Brierly said.

"The others were rescued by firefighters using ladders."

All six were treated by ambulance officers at the scene and were taken to Bankstown
Hospital suffering minor burns and smoke inhalation.

A hospital spokeswoman said they were all in stable condition.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which Mr Brierly said caused "significant damage"

to the top storey of the house.

Investigations into the cause of the fire were underway.

COLUMN: Generation Quiet?

Gregory Wolfe
University Wire
10-12-2007
(Cornell Daily Sun) (U-WIRE) ITHACA, N.Y. -- In an Oct. 10 article in the New York Times, columnist Thomas L. Friedman calls our generation "Generation Q." Q means Quiet. Friedman is "impressed because [students] are so much more optimistic and idealistic than they should be." But he is "baffled because [students] are so much less radical and politically engaged than they need to be." He goes on to laud us for doing quiet but meaningful activities, such as joining ROTC, volunteering in AIDS clinics and working for organizations like Teach for America in record numbers. However, Friedman also criticizes Generation Q for its passivity and unwillingness to become a political force, while in my opinion, suggesting that our generation should take after the student movements of the 60's and 70's. He also bemoans the fact that, when we do protest, it is through electronic media: "Virtual politics is just that -- virtual." Friedman calls for student activism in a more "real" in-your-face format. He then concludes by listing three issues that all young people should be concerned with: Social Security, the environment and the growing budget deficit.

To begin, I must say that Friedman's cause is a noble and commendable one. I am especially impressed that the three issues that he names as important to all students are, in fact, pertinent to all students; they defy partisan politics and will affect both conservatives and liberals equally in the future. However, I must disagree with him on several issues.

First, I believe that the biggest barrier to massive student activism in general is that it lacks power and cohesion. Usually, students have neither the money to alter the outcome of political elections nor the ability to be elected to positions of power in the first place. In addition, because being a student is a temporary vocation divided by long winter and summer breaks as well as eventual graduation, it is difficult for students to organize and sustain activism over long stretches of time. If you will recall the Red Bud protests, the issue basically died once summer break hit, and lacked salience once students came back to school. Students are unwilling to stay together for an issue once break hits; they have summer jobs and their lives to live. Political issues will inevitably take a back seat to real life in the end. As an electorate, students are hopelessly impotent because of this.

Second, the new free flow of information has irrevocably changed the way students are able to protest. The Internet is, in fact, an effective way to change politics. In order for activism in "the real world" to be considered important, it must be large and flamboyant enough to gain national attention from the media. The Red Bud protests did not gain notoriety outside the local media. Had they, Cornell may well have folded if confronted by a national outcry. On the other hand, "Internet activism" does not need second party coverage because it can be broadcast more easily. Friedman is incorrect; the Internet can change the world.

Also, activists have a reason to be afraid of what will happen when they protest because everything seems to be public information. Unlike when our parents were protesting in the 60's and 70's, we actually have something real to lose because information about us will most likely end up on the Internet, possibly putting our future jobs in jeopardy. Activism is just much riskier now than it was during our parents' generation.

Moreover, Friedman's hope that we will stop being virtual ignores reality. We were raised on the Internet and will likely use some form of AIM until the day we die. It is natural that we would feel comfortable blogging and protesting through a virtual medium. Even politicians use the Internet now, as evidenced by the millions of dollars presidential candidates are currently raising for their primary campaigns. Heck, they even have Facebook accounts now!

Third, I believe that students, through their organized activities, are actually changing the world as a cohesive group as opposed to expecting someone else to do it for them. A student protester, using his voice, has no idea if he will even be heard. However, a student who works with the poor knows that he has changed the world with his own hands. Actually effecting change is beneficial and rewarding. These experiences will later better equip students to effect change through politics once they have joined the real world, as they will have idealism and optimism ingrained into them through their own hard work. Not to pick on those Red Budders, but they did lose their fight. In hindsight, they may have been better served planting new Red Buds elsewhere.

Thus, in this writer's opinion, Generation Q is an unfair characterization because we are not exactly quiet. We are more introverted but not quite Generation I. Perhaps, "Generation Pragmatic" could best describe us. Why pragmatic? Because, perhaps unlike previous generations, we are obsessed with the future and long term goals, whether that means getting a job, going to graduate school, etc. However, we are also absurdly focused as well. How many of you got summer jobs this year with the goal of being hired at the same place sometime down the road? I know you are already thinking 20 years down the line; before Cornell, most of you were thinking of going to college as early as middle school or, at the very least, the beginning of high school. That means you were focused on college a full four years before you went! And you probably do not even know what you will have for dinner tonight. Quiet? No. Focused on the future so much that you cannot participate in the diffuse student activism of our parents? Yes. This is Generation P.

With all the junk mail coming in over the Internet, it's almost a relief now and then to get a call from a telemarketer. Well, not really. Most irritating are the cheerful folks peddling long-distance telephone plans. How can each be better than the other? But if they really were so bothersome, of course, we could sign on with one of those "do-not-call" lists. And if that's too much trouble, an extensive telemarketing site put up on the Internet by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has an easier suggestion: Pick 'em off one at a time. "When you receive telephone solicitation calls, clearly state that you want to be added to the caller's do-not-call list," the FCC advises. The site, chockfull of advice on rules and what to do if they are broken, is located at www.fcc.gov/cgb/ consumerfacts/tcpa.html.

But most of us wouldn't mind saving a few bucks on long-distance calls if only we could figure out which offer is the really good deal. FCC to the rescue again. i2 Announces New TradeMatrix.com Services Specifically for High-Tech Companies; Compaq and HP Become First Leading Customers of HightechMatrix.com.

DALLAS, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- i2 Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: ITWO), the leading provider of intelligent eBusiness solutions, today announced the first of a number of planned, industry-specific marketplaces within TradeMatrix.com, i2's intelligent eBusiness portal that spans multiple digital marketplaces. HightechMatrix.com is a vertical, online marketplace designed for buyers, sellers, designers and service providers in the high-technology industry. Compaq and Hewlett-Packard Company are among the leading customers participating in HightechMatrix.

i2's TradeMatrix.com is a portal that provides a one-stop destination for online collaboration and dynamic trading, electronic procurement, spot buying, selling and order fulfillment, logistics services and design services. It is differentiated through i2's industry-leading advanced optimization and execution capabilities for improved decision-making. HightechMatrix.com is powered by TradeMatrix.com and will provide customized solutions for the high-tech industry.

The initial focus of HightechMatrix.com will be on procurement services for the high tech electronics industry. "There is a rush among the many players in this market space to provide online procurement capabilities of indirect materials," said Sanjiv Sidhu, CEO of i2 Technologies. "i2 provides a highly-differentiated solution through intelligent direct and indirect material procurement capabilities that are tightly linked into suppliers' fulfillment and planning processes. We believe that i2 is the only company to provide total procurement solutions."

Direct material procurement includes the materials that a company uses to produce its products and services and can often account for more than 50 percent of a high-tech company's total annual revenue. Indirect material procurement covers materials that are needed outside of the production process and typically account for 10-20 percent of a high-tech manufacturer's total annual revenue.

For example, a computer manufacturer's direct material procurement needs may include materials to produce the motherboard, computer chips and a case to house the computer-processing unit. Their indirect material procurement needs could cover a belt for an assembly line, light bulbs for the plant or a desk for an employee.

HightechMatrix.com builds on earlier efforts by i2 and HP to create a trading community for electronics distributors and electronics suppliers. As part of today's announcement, HP and i2 are moving the electronics distributors and suppliers trading community into HightechMatrix.com and setting up HP as the community's first customer. HP's first implementation will involve running its material procurement transactions and customer order fulfillment transactions through HightechMatrix.com.

"The successful experience gained by developing the HP and i2 trading community can now be leveraged into the broader electronics supply chain," said Bill Russell, vice president and general manager, HP's Software and Solutions Organization. "We invite all of our trading partners, and in turn, all of their trading partners, including HP's competitors, to join this marketplace and benefit from increased market agility and reduced overall supply chain costs."

Compaq, an aggressive adopter of i2's intelligent eBusiness solutions is incorporating HightechMatrix.com into its fast-track eProcurement roadmap. This will enable Compaq and its trading partners to gain access to the broad suite of marketplace services, including material procurement, design collaboration and logistics. Compaq was the first high-tech industry adopter of i2's Product Lifecycle Management solutions to optimize their product development and product transition functions.

"Compaq's vision is to deliver ever increasing value to our customers and suppliers by leveraging the Internet in every possible manner," said Ed Straw, senior vice president of Supply Chain Management, Compaq Computer. "Electronic marketplaces are the next revolution in reducing supply chain costs and improving customer responsiveness. We believe that HightechMatrix.com will rapidly emerge as the industry's leading marketplace for sharing information and optimized decisions across companies' borders. We encourage our trading partners to come online."

i2 has long held the leading position in providing supply chain management software solutions for the high-tech industry, with a current 72 percent market share in electronics, according to a September 1999 report by Benchmarking Partners. In fact, nine of the 10 largest computer makers in the world have adopted i2's solutions to optimize their supply chains.

i2 is offering qualified high-tech companies free trial services of HightechMatrix.com for up to 60 days. These qualified companies and their suppliers will be able to have their direct material procurement processes online shortly after registration. Future service offerings in HightechMatrix.com are intended to include indirect material procurement (including configuration of items, such as PCs), customer and channel collaboration, Internet order-fulfillment services and third-party logistics services.

HightechMatrix.com subscribers may be individual users at companies or may be entire internal or private exchange networks. Individual companies who participate in other exchanges may also opt to participate in HightechMatrix.com without the risk of conflicting with their existing exchange.

"HightechMatrix.com provides the security and data control of a proprietary trading community and the fast access to data of a critical mass of trading partners in a public marketplace," said Mark Jensen, i2's vice president, High Tech Industry business unit. "Latency issues and timing problems for data exchange across trading partners are eliminated, without the company giving up control of who sees its data."

Benefits of HightechMatrix.com:

-- For corporate buyers, HightechMatrix will use advanced optimization and execution capabilities to consolidate the buyer's requirements and reduce total purchase costs, while helping to ensure that ordered items are available and delivered on time.

-- For corporate sellers, HightechMatrix.com will expand their market presence with reduced effort by exposing sellers in one high-technology marketplace to all potential buyers.

-- For product developers, HightechMatrix.com will provide a planning hub for internal development projects, market feedback and customer collaboration. Product managers and designers have the ability to gain new insights and streamline collaboration with trading partners. These services are designed to significantly reduce time-to-market, while efficiently aligning product and service offerings with profitability goals.

-- For service providers, such as brokers, logistics providers, contract manufacturers, fulfillment houses and distributors, HightechMatrix.com will help increase total revenue and profit by directly linking the value-added service into the buying, selling and planning processes.

Other companies that have committed to HightechMatrix.com include Amkor Technology Inc. and NCR Corporation's Systemedia Group.

The arrangements described in this release are subject to the parties concluding definitive agreement.

Kostech Small Cap Research Releases Bulletin on International Meta Systems, Inc.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- International Meta Systems, Inc. (OTC: IMES) designs and develops advanced microprocessor chips for the personal computer industry. The corporate headquarters are located in El Segundo, California and the engineering design headquarters are located in Austin, Texas. IMES currently has 67 employees, 90% of which are directly involved in the engineering process. IMES has drawn away engineering talent from Rockwell, IBM, Cyrix, AMD, Ross Technologies, NexGen, Motorola, Hughes, and AT&T for the purpose of designing high performance Intel compatible microprocessors.

The microprocessor is an integrated circuit that serves as the Central Processing Unit (CPU) or "brain" of the computer. This market is valued at over $25 billion worldwide and is growing daily. IMES has been working for some time developing and patenting chips which are in many ways superior in speed and processing ability to what is currently available (for full specification sheet and performance data contact the company).

Intel currently dominates the CPU market as they designed the first CPU capable of being mass marketed in small PCs in the mid-seventies. The chip that shipped in the first PCs was the 8088 (IBM PC). This was followed by the 8086 (IBMXT), the 80286 (IBM AT/PS2), the 80386, 80486, and finally the Pentium and Pentium Pro. With the advent of the 80286, the CPU market saw competition mounting, and by the time 386s were shipping, AMD and Texas Instruments were fighting for Intel's market share. AMD remains a capable competitor due to the fact that the company decided to make their chips "pin compatible" with Intel chips. This design allowed the design work previously done in the Intel compatible machines, to be re-used, and the virtues of the CPU alone would influence the AMD/Intel decision. Cyrix and AMD are presently the two major competitors to Intel with IMES being featured in engineering magazines as a good possibility for a third. This year, IMES will introduce an x86 chip that will fit standard Pentium sockets and delivers P6 (Pentium Pro) level performance. Under contract to a major international semiconductor manufacturer, IMES is developing the Meta 6000, a fully custom pin-compatible chip with performance targeted to the equivalent of a 300 mhz Pentium. This would mean that consumers could replace their existing Pentium chips with a chip that is 50% faster than the most current Intel Pentium. The Meta 600 design provides full on-chip multimedia capability with the new Pentium MMX.

Consumers could also order new computers with the Meta 6000 pre-installed at a reduced cost to a Pentium. The upcoming M2 Cyrix chips are expected to receive much attention, due to the fact that Cyrix has priced their chips at about half the cost of a comparable Pentium. In addition, they have made major strides in improving reliability. If IMES gets further positive review from industry publications, their products will be in demand very quickly as well.

Microprocessor manufacturing requires the use of a billion dollar facility known as a silicon foundry. IMES established a strategic partnership in 1995 with a major international semiconductor manufacturer to help deliver and market the Meta 6000. Upon completion of the development and design of the Meta 6000, the foundry partner will utilize its marketing and sales organization to distribute the product and compensate IMES on a royalty basis. In addition, IMES will sell the microprocessor through an internal OEM and direct marketing sales force.

This major foundry partner is expected to be announced when production begins. Together with the foundry partner, IMES intends to capture a modest 3-5% of the chip market over the next 2 years. If the Company's superior technologies are produced and this market share is accomplished, IMES will become a very profitable entity as well as an extremely attractive acquisition target.

There are many other products in the pipeline scheduled for release later this year including the Meta Expresso which will compete with Sun Microsystems Pico Java chip. These chips are used in the market which drive Internet Computers, HDTV, and Web Coupled TV. We will cover these products in our next update.

M2 PRESSWIRE-31 May 2005-Research and Markets: Research and Markets: Video Streams Rose by 80.7% in 2004 to 14.2 billion Served(C)1994-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

RDATE:31052005

Dublin - Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c18419) has announced the addition of Streaming Media 2004 - 2007: Market Development and User Data Analysis to their offering

Streaming Media (Internet Radio and video) exhibited strong growth in 2004, with both Internet-only and major offline brands capturing share in this growing on-demand broadcast segment. This report looks at usage data by site, network, channel, aggregator and combines that with in-depth historical usage data to provide accurate forecast and trend analysis across multiple content categories, including film, music, TV, general entertainment, sports and news.

Video streams rose by 80.7% in 2004 to 14.2 billion served. The growth in video streams served was powered by:

- Increased broadband connection penetration at the residential level;

- The continued popularity of streaming media in office/work-related environments;

- More ad-supported broadband content, media players that queue up files for auto-play (Yahoo Launch, MSN Video, MSNBCNews, ESPN.com and others), and;

- Increasing video views per unique user per month associated with broadband users who consume more of the Internet, particularly multimedia Internet.

Video streams are forecast to grow by 48% in 2005 to over 21 billion served. Broadband streams (100 Kbps and above) made up 79.3% of total streams served in 2004. Narrowband video streams made up 20.7% of total streams served, largely driven by AOL, which continues to make content libraries available at narrowband bit rates. Aggregate tuning hours (ATH) for the top ten Internet radio sites and networks rose by 75.9% in 2004 per month, to 178.9 million hours. ATH per month grew by 53.2% in 2003 compared to 2002, a year which saw significant contraction in the market due to the advertising slowdown and regulatory uncertainly with regard to copyright fees for re-broadcasting content.

This report covers the following topics:

- Total Video Streams Served Annually

- Broadband and Narrowband Video Stream Growth Rate Comparison

- Content Category Comparison: Full Year 2004

- Total Streaming Video Accesses: The Top Ten Sites and Networks: Full Year 2003 and 2004

- Internet Radio Average Aggregate Tuning Hours per Month: The Top Ten Sites and Networks - 2001 - 2004n

- Content Category Comparison: Full Year 2004
